Developing software means having to deal with defects; old ones, new ones, ones you created yourself, and those that others brought to life. Software developers debug programs for a living.
Hence, good debugging skills are a must-have. That said, it is regrettable that debugging is hardly taught in engineering schools. That's how the idea for this book was born.
This book goes beyond the level of simple source code debugging scenarios. In addition, it covers the most frequent real-world problems from the areas of program linking, memory access, parallel processing and performance analysis. The picture is completed by chapters covering static checkers and techniques to write code that leans well towards debugging.

???Now we??™re going to talk about our black and white options within Photo Shop. If we look at our screen here, we can see that up here in image, under adjustments, down to black and white, we will get black and white options. As you can see it went ahead and automatically formatted this photo to black and white. And what it will allow us to do is it will actually allow us to play with the individual colors, giving more or less of that particular color. And allowing us to adjust this how we see fit to get that perfect gray scale that we??™re looking for. Now we can also go over here and hit auto. And this will automatically adjust it as best as it can. But as you can see it??™s still a bit dark here. So let??™s bring up our magentas just a little bit. Bring up our blues. Here we go. We can just do several adjustments. This is more going to adjust the background than anything because the fore ground layer is just too black, too dark. There we go. That??™s about the best that we can do right now. Now also we can go over here. We can tint our photo. And as you can see, it starts off with the automatic beige color. And we can choose our saturation whether we want it a really dark tint or really light tint. We can also adjust the hue of our photo. We??™re going to go over here to a purplish color, like so. And there you have it. And this is just pretty basic stuff that you can do within your program to adjust your black and white. And actually give your photo a tint that you??™re looking for. So play around with it, have fun and enjoy.???

The Guideways through Mountains and Seas, compiled between the fourth and first centuries b.c.e., contains descriptions of hundreds of fantastic denizens of mountains, rivers, islands, and seas, along with minerals, flora, and medicine. The text also represents a wide range of beliefs held by the ancient Chinese. Richard Strassberg brings the Guideways to life for modern readers by weaving together translations from the work itself with information from other texts and recent archaeological finds to create a lavishly illustrated guide to the imaginative world of early China. Unlike the bestiaries of the late medieval period in Europe, the Guideways was not interpreted allegorically; the strange creatures described in it were regarded as actual entities found throughout the landscape. The work was originally used as a sacred geography, as a guidebook for travelers, and as a book of omens. Today, it is regarded as the richest repository of ancient Chinese mythology and shamanistic wisdom. The Guideways may have been illustrated from the start, but the earliest surviving illustrations are woodblock engravings from a rare 1597 edition. Seventy-six of those plates are reproduced here for the first time, and they provide a fine example of the Chinese engraver's art during the late Ming dynasty. This beautiful volume, compiled by a well-known specialist in the field, provides a fascinating window on the thoughts and beliefs of an ancient people, and will delight specialists and general readers alike.
